Snooze
"Snooze" is one of our most ambitious projects. To create this 4-minute short film, we needed to capture more than 50 scenes in 10 different places over 5 months of production. To get to the final result, the capture needed to be on triple levels. First, we filmed the dancers in real locations, then we filmed the same choreographed take without the dancer, and finally, we re-recorded the choreography of all the scenes to capture movements in our studio.
With motion capture, our animators brought the virtual character to life. The clothes were physically simulated on an invisible 3D model—a crucial step brilliantly directed by Rafael Coppola. To light up the scenes, we captured HDRs from the actual locations and used these HDRs to illuminate the virtual character, thus creating a sense of visual realism. Finally, the post-production, led by Thiago Paladino, composed these different puzzle pieces, creating a playful yet realistic composition.
Directed by Milton Menezes, "Snooze" was the first film in which we mixed all the digital art disciplines in one project. This was possible thanks to an outstanding team of professionals. Special thanks to Giselle Almeida, Diego Barcellos, Vivi Rodrigues, Ricardo Daroz, and all the leads and artists who contributed to this production's success!
